In May 2004, the Government of Canada announced a new
national strategy to protect children from online sexual exploitation. As part of this strategy, Cybertip.ca
was recognized as Canada's National Cybertipline, resulting in a 5-year funding agreement with Public Safety Canada.
On February 10, 2009 Canada's Public Safety Minister announced the renewal of the National Strategy for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation. The National Strategy provides funding to support the ongoing
operation of Cybertip.ca, as well as the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre. The strategy also targets resources towards such things as increasing law enforcement's capacity to investigate and track
down online predators, and supporting further research on child sexual exploitation.

Since 2001, the Province of Manitoba has provided financial
support to Cybertip.ca. The Honourable Gord Mackintosh has played a key role in advancing the pilot phase of
the tipline to a national service that benefits all Canadians.
