But he seemed so nice...

Amanda and Melissa had been close friends since they were children, and had gone through a lot together. When they were 15, they had one of their first Internet adventures together—they entered a chatroom where they hoped to meet boys.

It didn't take long before they were approached by a guy named Connor. The girls were excited to chat with an older guy online—he was 19 and that made them feel good about themselves. So they would chat with him for hours every day about all sorts of stuff: music, movies, TV shows, etc. Eventually, the subject turned to the girls' lives.

Amanda and Melissa both thought that Connor was pretty cool. Eventually, he asked how they felt about going out with older guys, and whether they wanted to get together. The girls thought it would be fun, and figured they would be safe if they stuck together. Amanda and Melissa agreed to meet Connor early one Saturday evening outside a busy coffee shop. They thought Connor was going to take them to a college party, and had even shared cell phone numbers with him so they could keep in touch if something came up before the meeting.

As they approached the café, Amanda and Melissa noticed two men standing outside who looked as if they were waiting for someone. The men appeared to be about 40-years-old. The girls felt suspicious about their planned "date." So before they got too close, they called the cell phone Connor had provided. When one of the men answered the phone, the girls turned and headed home before they were seen by the men. For three days, "Connor" kept calling Amanda's cell phone before Amanda had his number blocked.
