Hardware Tools

Hardware tools monitor and manage what a user can access on the Internet, and are essentially routers that have web filtering capabilities.

For home computer users with high-speed Internet connections (such as cable, DSL, or satellite), a router can act as a hardware firewall. Many experts believe that a hardware firewall is more effective than a software firewall because the computer's IP address isn't directly exposed outside the local network and hardware firewalls don't use computer resources.

For families with multiple computers connected to the Internet through cable, DSL, or satellite, a hardware solution such as a router with web filtering capabilities is likely the more effective solution. This is because the web filtering software does not have to be installed and configured on each individual computer. (click here for more information)
